A traditional un-spoilt harbour town by the river Fertha and situated at the foot of Beentee Mountain, just 40 minutes from Farranfore Airport on the N70. Cahersiveen developed into a small town in the 1800’s from the salting of Atlantic fish and to this day has strong links with the sea.

Cahersiveen boasts an excellent harbour and a superb 94-berth marina just 10 minutes from open sea, offering sailing, trout and salmon fishing, deep-sea diving, yacht chartering, river trips, and deep-sea angling. Surrounded by small inlets and white sandy beaches Cahersiveen is ideal for relaxing or exploring the many islands and hidden coves or for hill walking along the Kerry Way.

As well as thousands of years of Archaeology there are two recent discoveries of Viking Settlements on Beginish, an island within the harbour and Church Island, in the mouth of the river Fertha, features an early Christian Monastery. Ring Forts Leacanabuaile and Cahergal circa 800/900 AD, feature on the surrounding hills within walking distance of the town. Artists visit annually to paint the wonderful landscape and sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. street1.JPG (527329 bytes)

Resident artists run courses locally and there are regular exhibitions for the art lover, not to mention the abundance of art and craft shops and galleries. Accommodation in the friendly B+Bs, self catering accommodation or camping can be organized through web site  whilst dining is delightful in the local restaurants specialising in locally caught seafood and organic produce. Cahersiveen can best be summed up by Irelands Minister for Tourism, Mr. J O’Donoghue, as ‘the best kept sea secret on the island of Ireland’.
